There is controversy over former military president, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (retd) statement on President Muhammadu Buhari.

The ex President had in a statement released by Kassim Afegbua on Sunday called on Nigerians to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Few hours after the statement went viral on the social media,  another statement emanated quoting the ex leader of denying telling Nigerians that he said so.

He said “Not only is the said statement untrue, it is in its entirety, an inaccurate representation of my view of the state of our dear Nation”

“As a former President and an elder statesman, I have existing communication channels through which I reach out to President Muhammadu Buhari on topical issues of national importance, should there be the need so to do.

“The media, both online or mainstream and indeed the unsuspecting public are advised to disregard such false reports” he said.

But online reports later quoted Afegbua to have said that Babangida directed him to issue the statement.
