The senatorial bid of Prof Nnamdi Obiaraeri recorded a significant boost yesterday at Ihitte Uboma local Government Area which is the home base of the incumbent Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu as the entire APC leaders and stakeholders including political appointees, women and youths in their multitude rolled out the drums to affirm their support to the endorsement of Obiaraeri for the senate seat of Okigwe zone by governor Rochas Okorocha.
Addressing the crowd that trooped out to receive the senatorial hopeful, a former lawmaker and commissioner for Public Utilities in Imo State,Hon Engr.Mark Uchendu who noted that Okigwe has always being unfortunate in electing senators in the past made it clear that the emergence of Prof Nnamdi Obiaraeri as senator for the zone in 2019 will not only give a voice for the zone but will reconnect the zone with the rest of the nation.
He lamented that all the senators that have been representing Okigwe zone have always ended up being accountable to self acclaimed political leaders to the detriment of the people that gave them the mandate.
He however averred that the legal icon that has the full support and endorsement of the state governor who is the leader of APC in the state possesses the desired capacity to bring a unique and significant difference at the red chamber of the national assembly.
He declared that despite the fact that the incumbent senator Benjamin Uwajumogu is enjoying the opportunity of Okigwe local Government to occupy the position of the senate presently, he regretted that the senator has clearly demonstrated that he lacks the capacity to provide the needed change at the senate.
“For senator Benjamin Uwajumogu to abandon the business of budgeting at the senate to travel to abroad for a mere jamboree is enough to earn him the collective vote of no confidence passed on him today at his own area” he asserted.
According to Uchendu who explained that no part of the appropriation act currently being implemented in the country captured any project within the zone except the one from the House of Representative is a clear indication that Okigwe zone has no body at the senate.
While assuring his people that Prof Obiaraeri will provide right representation that will give the zone the needed attention required at the centre,the former lawmaker appealed to the APC senatorial hopeful to remain focused and committed in the political emancipation of the zone.
He said that the governor’s choice and endorsement of the legal luminary has not only received the support of all the party leaders and stakeholders in the zone but has remained a task that must be accomplished.
Earlier, Prof Obiareri noted that he will bring a paradigm change in the representation of the zone at the senate through quality and people oriented contributions at debates. He narrated his role in the election of senator Benjamin Uwajumogu and decried the manner the senator has distanced himself from the zone and the state governor.
The varsity dom turned politician who vowed that he will use his position if elected as senator to serve God and humanity, stressed that he will work with all the critical stakeholders, leaders and more importantly the state governor which he maintained will greatly assist him to attract more dividend of democracy.
The Ihube- born Commissioner who disclosed that he has been at the political activities within the zone in the last 16 years including being part of the people that negotiated the governorship to the zone in 2007, asserted clearly that without romancing power with other zones Okigwe zone with only 6 LGAs cannot get the governorship of the state on their own.
He expressed great gratitude to governor Okorocha for endorsing him and assured the people of Ihitte Uboma of his determination to provide efficient and effective representation.
The highpoint of the colourful event was the motion of affirmation to the endorsement of Prof Obiaraeri by the entire APC leaders and stakeholders that was supported by all present.
