Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has expressed delight with the near completion of the Assumpta Science Centre, Ofekata Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Onu who visited the centre on a facility tour on Friday told newsmen that the project is part of the Federal Government’s commitment to extend key projects to the South East geo political zone of the country.

He said the project will soon be commissioned to serve the purpose it was built for which is geared towards achieving sustainable development and in line with efforts to reduce poverty through science and technology.   The Minister pointed out that the centre will attract science students from abroad who will come to the school for studies on various subjects.

“The Centre is almost completed and it is an international science centre where students from abroad can come and study. We are happy with the level of work and soon we shall come here for the official commissioning of the centre” he said .

It would be recalled that the Minister had last year visited the Vatican where he held discussions with His Holiness, Pope Francis and other Vatican authorities to accelerate the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the effective take off of the Assumpta Science Centre, Orodo, Imo State

The Centre is designed to accelerate sustainable development and poverty alleviation through science and technology capacity building in Africa. It is also a model educational innovation that would provide skill acquisition and capacity building options designed to attract young people to choose careers in science and technology.
