Imo State Finance commissioner, Hon.Obinna Mbata has been honoured by the University of Nigeria, UNN Alumni, Owerri branch.
Mbata was conferred with alunmni excellence Award which took place at Ahiajoku Centre, New Owerri . The event was graced by people from all social strata especially UNAA members.
In her remarks, the Imo state branch president of UNAA, Dr Mrs Pat U. Ekennia said the awardees deserve the medal, having done noble to lift the University of Nigeria Alumni Association to greater heights as well as distinguished themselves in their various public or private organizations or business which has helped humanity.
Adorning the medal on Hon Obinna Nonyerem Mbata, UNAA said the recognition was due to his sterling performance in public service of which Imo state is benefiting today.
She said”Hon Obinna Nonyerem is lawyer, an administrator, a gentleman with vast skills in negotiation, training, effective leadership and creativity. He loves his community and has continuously seek avenues to better the lot of the less-privileged , a good man from Amawom community, Owerri municipal council, Imo state. He is a trusted and devoted member of UNAA and has always demonstrated excellence for which our Alma Mater, the great varsity is known ”
She appealed for financial support from members, government and other well meaning individuals to start and finish their project
Expressing happiness and appreciation to God for availing him the opportunity to earn the award, Barr .Obinna Nonyerem Mbata, who is the Commissioner of Finance, Imo state thanked University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association for finding him worthy for the recognition as “Lion of Distinction”, pledging his continued support to the association.
He stressed that the medal will spur him to do more to advance humanity, vowing that he will continue to help the needy. He urged his people to actively and ardently support his aspiration to represent them in the Imo state House of Assembly in 2019, promising that he will never abandon them if given their mandate.
He added that he has the good qualities of leadership and the capacity to give his constituency effective representation, saying “politics is service to people and it is germane to always identify excellence which the rescue mission administration in Imo State has been known and we shall often project Owelle’s led government positively”, Mbata vowed
