Details on the demolition of Orie market in Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government came to the fore yesterday as some persons were badly injured. There were unverified reports that some persons lost their lives during the melee.
A facebook user, Collins wrote on his timeline that three people were shot dead as women wept openly while the exercise lasted. He wrote “See weeping before the status of virgin Maria at St Barnabas Catholic Church”
This newspaper had reported that the market was demolished in line with the urban renewal of the Rochas Okorocha administration.
Further reports said the market was demolished amidst wailing and weeping by traders, mostly men and women. Some houses were also destroyed by government bulldozers as the State government stated that its rsolve to modernize the city.
