The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State and Destiny Organization of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume have reacted strongly to the assault on the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Archbishop AJV Obinna.
In a statement signed by Kingsley Ufere, Director Media/Publicity, Araraume Campaign Organization, the senator described the incident as ugly and sacrilegious. He condemned the attack which he said is totally unacceptable, condemnable and reprehensible.
Araraume demanded that the perpetrators of this heinous act should be brought to answer to the law”
Part of the statement reads“Our politicians should realize that a place of worship and sanctuary of God is a revered place and not a place for gangastarism,political rascality and cult activities”
“The person of Archbishop Obinna is a highly respected man of God and a senior citizen of our state. He should be treated with all measures of respect and dignity that he and his office deserve. The organization also disassociates the ruling party, All Progressive Congress(APC) from this act and action. The leadership of the party at the state and national levels condemns this act in its entirety” Araraume said
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State chapter said in a statement that “ Recourse to brutality against the Archbishop for a mere comment he made, portrays the Imo government officials as reckless, naïve, primitive and lacking in decorous conduct”
According to a statement signd by Damian Opara, Publicity Secretary of the party, the PDP said “to have attacked a highly revered cleric like Archbishop AJV Obinna under the supervision and in full glare of governor Okorocha’s wife and his Chief of Staff is a pointer to what Imo people should expect in the days ahead as 2019 General Elections draw nearer”
