Imo Police Command To Disarm Groups In Possession Of Ilegal Firearms, Weapons

In compliance with an order of the Inspector General of Police to disarm and recover firearms, ammunition and weapons in possession of suspected militias, vigilante groups, neighbourhood watch and other groups, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Imo State, DCP Tunji Akingbola has ordered the recovery of such arms.

The DCP according to a press release called on every individual and bodies bearing sophisticated firearms, ammunition, illegal weapons and lethal devices whether locally fabricated, modified or otherwise, fashioned to kill such as artillery.

The statement stated that the Force Headquarters and Department of Operations has set up a Police Task Force Enforcement Team on Recovery of Arms and Ammunition to carry out the assignment with immediate effect.

It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police had given the directive last week. In effect, this implies that all security groups and networks under the employ of the Imo State Government would surrender their weapons.
