Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim has reacted to reports online that he has endorsed Uche Nwosu, Governor Okorocha’s son – in law and Chief for the 2019 governorship election.
In a statement by Collins Ughalla, Ohakim’s Chief Press Secretary, he said “ nothing can be more spurious than this resumed propanganda against Dr. Ikedi Ohakim”
The Full statement titled “ Dr. Ikedi Ohakim’s Has Not Endorsed Uche Nwosu for 2019 Imo Governorship” reads:
Our attention has been drawn to the false reports on the social media by shameless and ignorant delinquents that His Excellency Dr Ikedi Ohakim has endorsed Uche Nwosu, Governor Okorocha’s son in-law and Chief of Staff, for the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Nothing can be more spurious than this resumed propaganda against Dr. Ikedi Ohakim.
It is obvious that some people are intimidated by the rising profile and love Dr Ikedi Ohakim enjoys in the state, especially since he declared to run for the 2019 governorship election and to recover the state from vultures and undertakers who are bent on interring the state in her prime.
The strategy by these buckaroo supporters of Uche Nwosu is simply: an orchestrated plot to stop Dr Ikedi Ohakim by discrediting him. But their bubble has burst because Imo people do not even take them serious. They believe that Governor Okorocha cannot succeed himself through his son in-law in 2019.
The truth is that Dr Ikedi Ohakim did not endorse Uche Nwosu or anyone else for the 2019 governorship election. He has only endorsed himself. The picture being bandied about by Uche Nwosu and his supporters is not a picture of any endorsement but a picture taken at the burial of the wife of Chief Kennedy Chukwuonye, elder brother to Chief Chinedu Chukwuonye (Cudoc) recently.
It was proper that Uche Nwosu showed courtesy by greeting the former Governor, and it was statesmanly that the former Governor accepted his courtesy, hugged him and posed for photograph with him.
Supporters of Uche Nwosu should therefore be very careful not to create unnecessary enmity among governorship aspirants, heat up the polity and create insecurity, where they thrive well as thugs and miscreants. They should stop being petty and cheap but rather grow up and stop claiming that an innocent picture taken at a public function translates to endorsement of Uche Nwosu. Their action is capable of making governorship aspirants not to talk to each other or even greet each other. This will be unhealthy.
The supporters of Uche Nwosu should see the need to urgently consult a psychiatrist since their infatuation for endorsement of Uche Nwosu has touched their brain.
Imo people should disregard the false report but to continue to show support for Dr Ikedi Ohakim in his 2019 governorship bid.
Together we will recover Imo State.
Signed:
Collins Ughalaa,
Chief Press Secretary to His Excellency Dr Ikedi Ohakim.
