The State Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress,in Imo State has assured of a level playing ground for all aspirants jostling for one elective position or the other in the party.
This is contained in a communique issued by the party and signed by the State Party Chairman, Hilary Eke. The party chairman had assured at the Stakeholders meeting held at Concorde Hotel, Owerri on Sunday that anyone is free to contest the governorship election in 2019 on the party’s platform assuring a level playing ground for all.
The APC in Imo State has been bedeviled by the governorship ambitions of some key stakeholders’ in the party. The wave of endorsements for Governor Rochas Okorocha Chief of Staff and son- in law, Uche Nwosu by 24 of 27 local Government chapters of the party had triggered fierce reactions and divided opinions within the party .
The Restoration Group, a pressure group led by former Imo State Commissioner, TOE Ekechi had cited relevant sections of the APC Constitution which declared the endorsements as illegal, while Okorocha justified the endorsements as nothing out of place.
The Communique by the State Working Committee which emanated after a fruitful stakeholders meeting held at Concorde Hotel, Owerri on Sunday is seen as “soothing balm” to calm frayed nerves of opposing camps in the party.
The SWC stated that “It will ensure strict compliance with provisions of the constitution of the party in handling all her affairs as a way of strengthening the various organs of the party in the State”
According to the communiqué, the State party leadership promised “ a level playing ground for all aspirants and co-operation with the State Government to ensure hitch free LGA election in the month of June 2018 as proposed .
Party members were also encouraged to shun distractions from the oppositions and work towards the unity and growth of the party.
