The people of Umuduruchioma Town, Amaigbo in Nwangele local Government Area of Imo state have appealed to governments at all levels to come to their rescue to avoid being cut off from Nwangele LGA by gully erosion.

The President General of the Town, Ichie Uchechukwu Igbokwe who made appeal  while conducting journalists round the erosion sites,pointed out that his people are ready to partner with governments at all levels in order to attract development to the ancient town, adding that it is quite unfortunate that successive governments at all levels in Nigeria have failed to remember them in all their respective projects, programs and policies.

Igbokwe who also noted that Umuduruchioma as a river line town are predominately farmers, further said that there is no road to export their agricultural and aquatic products to the markets,stressing that Umuduruchioma needs strong government presence to justify their agricultural and aquatic inputs to the economic development of IMO state.

According to him ” It prompts crying that there is no road to move our agricultural and aquatic products to markets during raining period because of flood, we are the major producers of fresh water catfish ,corn, palm wine and other farm products in orlu zone but bad roads is our major problem also. Despite being riverine town but there is no atom of restiveness because we are peace loving people, we are ready to partner with governments at all levels to bring development down to our town.”

He however used the opportunity to commend President Muhammad Buhari for approving the ongoing construction of bridge across onuezeuil river to ameliorate the sufferings of Umuduruchioma people as a result of flood occasioned by federal government Dam in the area, noting that this is the first of its kind.

” I appeal to the federal , State and local governments to remember us more in the area infrastructures, all the roads to Umuduruchioma town have collapsed and not motorable. We have been cut off from Nwangele LGA by gully erosion.”

” We are also specially begging our amiable governor, Owelle Rocha’s okorocha to remember us in the ongoing massive roads construction in the state considering our agricultural and aquatic inputs to food production in the state.”
