Following the prediction by the United Nations that Igbo culture may soon go into extinction and the need to ensure the language survives, the Chief Whip of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Arthur Egwim has assured of his commitment to ensure that the state government partners with the organization in its defined mission and vision.
Hon. Egwim who represents Ideato North State Constituency made the appeal when the Imo State Leadership of Igboezue International led by Dr. Gabriel Onyekuru paid him a courtesy call at the State Assembly office complex, Owerri.
The law maker expressed regret the manner the Igbo Language, culture and tradition are going into extinction. He commended members of Igboezue International for their efforts in ensuring that Igbo cultural and traditional heritages are not forgotten noting that the fight should be a collective effort of all sons and daughters of Igbo extraction.
Hon. Egwim expressed disappointment that none of them speaks Igbo language fluently as against their counterparts from other ethnic groups. The lawmaker expressed his commitment in ensuring the protection and promotion of good Igbo traditional and cultural heritages.
Earlier, the Chairman of Igboezue International in Imo State, Dr. Gabriel Onyekuru said the essence of the visit is to introduce the organization and to share its aim and objective so as to solicit for mutual partnership.
Onyekuru lamented the manner good Igbo cultural and traditional heritages especially Igbo language are going into extinction and canvassed the need for its revival and promotion. He further revealed that efforts are being made to inaugurate the state leadership and to decorate Hon. Arthur Egwim as one of the organization’s chapter patron.
