Ohakim had on February 22nd, 2018 announced his intention to govern Imo State for the second time on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He was elected Imo State Governor in 2007 but lost his re- election to Rochas Okorocha in 2011.

He had staged a come- back in 2015 but lost at the PDP governorship primary.

Reports had filtered to this newspaper that Ohakim had contemplated joining the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

The move was said to have been shelved after he unsuccessfully failed to get the national leadership of the party to back his ambition.

Another report had it that he is now in talks with the Social Democratic Party, SDP, one of the political parties top politicians in the country are heading to. The SDP has grown in leaps and bounds lately and have been speculated to be attracting former Governors and Ministers.

In what appears realignment of political forces, Ohakim is alleged to have aligned himself with political soulmates which strengthen the rumour that he may find political solace in the SDP.

Speaking to this newspaper, media aide to the former Governor, Mr. Collins Ughalla said Ohakim has no intention of leaving the PDP.

He said Ohakim remains a leader in the party and has continued to contribute to its growth, development and success.
“Ohakim is like a big masquerade. Even if he is leaving the PDP, it will be done openly. There is nothing to hide” he said

Ughalla recalled that Ohakim made it clear on the day he declared his intention to vie for Imo governorship that he is anchoring his ambition on the platform of the PDP.

Speaking to newsmen on the day he declared, Ohakim recalled how he re built the PDP in the State.
