The Federal University of Technology, Owerri  FUTO have held its 30th convocation ceremony. Many graduands bagged First Class in various Courses under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Eze.

In a lecture titled “Is Another Nigeria truly possible? Technological Trends,Domestic distemper”the guest lecturer, Prof Chudi Uwazuruike said education is the most successful foundation for a new Nigeria.

He enjoined the fresh graduands and all the students of the institution to ensure they add value positively to the society as leaders of tomorrow urging them to shun crime especially now that they are entering fully into the labour market.

Among those honoured by the institution with honoree awards include:Chief Sir. Tony Ezenna, Chief Executive Officer  of Orange Drugs Ltd, former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr.Nsima Udo Ekere,who is also Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC and the General Manager of Esso Exploration Production Limited,Engr.Andrew Ogaga Ejayeriese.

They were honoured for their service to humanity.

In his 19 page address, the Vice Chancellor of FUTO,Prof.Francis  Eze commended the members of 11th Governing Council, the Pro- Chancellor, Prof.John O.Offem and the Chancellor/Convocation Chairman, The  Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo all visiting Chancellors, Pro-Chancellors,Vice-Chancellors and the Special Guests for coming from far and near to honour the 2017/2018 FUTO Convocation ceremony.

The VC  stated that the various academic programmes of the university have been accredited by the National University Commission NUC disclosing that out of  45 academic programmes in the university, 41 have been full accreditation status, 2 programmes have interim status while new 2 programmes are waiting resource verification.

He extolled the university’s research activities and exhibitions, infrastructural development,ICT deployment and development, agro revolution, staff welfare and students welfare matters.

According to him, his other achievements include the award of Degrees,certificates and Post Graduate Diploma. He announced that a total of 2,325 first degrees and 438 higher degrees have been recorded in the 2017/2018 academic convocation ceremony.

Prof.Eze commended the overall best graduating student, Miss Adim Ijeaku Janewith CGPA of 4.76 of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Technology, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, SAAT. He also enumerated the categories of higher degrees with number of graduates as follows: Post Graduate Diploma, PGD,142,M.Sc/M.Eng/M.Tech/MPH/MBA,250,while Doctor of Philosophy Degrees, Ph.D,46.

He appealed to the Federal Government to tackle the menace of erosion ravaging the university.
