The funeral of the mother of a top All Progressive Congress, APC chieftain, Chief Charles Amadi in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State almost turned to a political rally with the presence of top APC chieftains in the State.
Mainly those who graced the event were supporters of Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha as the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Acho Ihim and members of the Imo State House of Assembly were in attendance. Members of the expanded State Executive Council were not left out as they were also present at the funeral.
The high-point of the event was the fierce fireworks that came from Uche Nwosu, Governor Okorocha’s son in law and Chief of Staff whom the Governor had announced his support for his 2019 governorship election.
Coming on the backdrop of media reports that he had quit the Imo governorship race, an enraged Chief Of Staff having denied the allegation through a statement by his media handlers went ahead to say at the funeral that the Imo APC governorship ticket is a done deal.
Speaking to the mammoth crowd that turned out for the funeral, Nwosu boasted that he has already emerged the governorship flagbearer of the party.
“For the main election, count me as your governor” he said.
He also boasted that no one can stop him from emerging the next Governor of Imo State.
Governor Rochas Okorocha who was seated for most of the part of the funeral sounded less political as he called on God to give the Amadi family the fortitude to bear the loss of their matriarch, Late Mrs. Dorothy Amadi.
Prince Charles Amadi is a known supporter of Okorocha’s Rescue Mission government having failed in his bid to enthrone an Owerri zone Governor of Imo extraction in 2015. He had formed a political group, Owerri Zone Political Leadership Forum, OZOPOLF which championed the quest of the zone to have the next governor of the State.
The Movement which had gained massive support and popularity across the zone crumbled in the peak of the Governorship polls after he surprisingly switched allegiance to Okorocha’s re- election in 2015.
Popularly called Chavon, he has been a staunch supporter of Okorocha’s government and is neck deep in plans by the Governor to have Uche Nwosu succeed him in 2019.
