Imo State Commissioner of Transport, Hon Lasbrey Okoroafornaynawu has explained the reasons behind the taxi painting policy of the Imo State Government.
Okoroafaoranyanwu was in the eye of the storm last week when news went viral on the social media that he was nearly relived of his appointment over the high cost charged taxi and bus operators to paint their vehicles with State Government approved black and yellow colours.
Speaking to this newspaper in an interview, the Commissioner also denied newspaper reports that he was almost sacked by Governor Rochas Okorocha over the policy. He said the original cost for painting the taxis was N25,000 but was increased to N50,000 to cover cost of tracking and training for taxi operators. He said the issue of tracking became imperative to curb the menace of car theft in the State.
The Commissioner said at no time were the fees increased to the detriment of cab operators.Reacting to reports of his imminent sack by the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha over the taxi cab policy, he said it was misinformation.
“ As You can see I m in my office. That report was misleading and it was misinformation” he said.
