With the resolution of APC Governors which is in tow with the position of President Muhammadu Buhari that tenure elongation for the National Working Committee, NWC and party executives is not possible because it is illegal, there seems to be some level of confusion in the camp of some stakeholders and governorship aspirants in Imo State on this unfolding development in the party.

After the National Executive Committee of the party had extended the tenure of party executives at all levels, other stakeholders in Imo APC mostly governorship aspirants embraced the resolution which created a level playing ground for them with the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha who was accused of having a tight grip on the party in the State.

A stakeholders meeting was summoned for the first time by the State Working Committee, SWC  outside the precincts of Government House, Owerri. Political Analysts said the elongation of Oyegun’s tenure and that of other party Executives at all levels created the opportunity for aggrieved stakeholders to commence the process of retaking the party from Okorocha’s grip in Imo State APC.

The  Imo State Governor was accused of  not being disposed to the idea of elongation of the tenure of party executives on his suspicion that they have been “bought over’ by his political adversaries in the party which may put spanners in his grand design to have Uche Nwosu, his son in law and Chief of Staff as the governorship candidate of the APC in Imo State.

With Oyegun’ s exit very imminent, the tussle for the soul of the party in Imo State is expected to become so intense as Congresses that will throw up fresh officers is expected to be the  battle ground for major players in the party.

This newspaper observed that Okorocha’s camp appear satisfied with the rejection of tenure elongation by the APC Governors Forum which Okorocha leads as Chairman.
