With the torching of the State Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State on Friday, it has been more drama among contending forces in the party as the local government congress in the state did not hold as scheduled on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
A statement credited to the party’s publicity Secretary, Nwabueze Oguchenti said the local government congress will now hold on Monday, 14th May, 2018. He also said two key members of the party have been suspended from the party over the fire incident at the party secretariat.
Another statement in what appears to be a counter one by the publicity secretary was dished out by the State party Secretary, Ireagwu Obioma w said the State Chairman unilaterally fixed a date for the congress.
This was followed by a demonstration by some youths loyal to the State Government in the State capital, Owerri on Saturday who called for “a peaceful and unending Congress” in the State chapter of the party.
Governor Rochas Okorocha had in a statement on through his Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemedo on Saturday commended the National Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun for cancelling the Local Government Congress.
“This is to commend the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Oyegun for cancelling the Conduct of the Local Government Congresses of the Party in the State, which should have, under normal scenario, held on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
“That was the best option, Considering the fact that the Ward Congresses have not been held in the State because the queer-characters in the so-called Coalition made away with the Sensitive materials meant for the Venture” the statement stated.
