There is tension in Imo State over the Ward congresses.
Most wards in the State as at the time of filing this report are yet to kick start the exercise.
It was gathered that notable chieftains of the party had converged at the Imo State Police Command, Owerri where a seeming irreconcilable political differences is taking place among political gladiators in the party.
Our reporter gathered that almost who is who in the party in Imo State had stormed the Police headquarters, Owerri over allegations of hijack of congress materials.
Governor Okorocha’s Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu and some officials of the Rescue Mission government such as Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Uju Kingsley, Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Mbata, Member of House of Representatives, Hon. Chike Okafor and many others were all seen at the State Police Command, Owerri.
Okorocha’s men were said to have complained on the hijack of congress materials and called for the cancellation of the exercise
“We are not satisfied with the officials to manage the congress. That is why we are here. We had complained to the national leadership of the party of this development” said an aggrieved party member loyal to the Okorocha group.
Journalists were not allowed into the CP’s office where discussions are said to be going on as at the time of filing this report.
Among top Imo APC chieftains sighted at the Police headquarters include Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, Senator Ifeanyi Arararume, National Organizing Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Barr. C.O.C Akaolisa, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba.
It was also gathered that some party chieftains mainly Governor Rochas Okorocha’s supporters had stormed the APC State Secretariat, Owerri earlier in the day where they also complained of sharp practices.
This may be the reason why in most wards across the State, congress did not hold leaving party members stranded.
As at 4.30pm, all the antagonists left the Police Command to an undisclosed location.
