There are strong indications senator representing Orlu zone, Senator Hope Uzodinma may opt for the Imo governorship race in 2019.
This newspaper gathered that the two time senator right from his days in the PDP had set his sights on the governorship until his recent defection to the All Progressive Congress, APC. His ambition was said to be key factor why he wrestled for the soul of Imo PDP which did not materialize in the long run.
Uzodinma is said to have a large army of political followers and support base in Imo State made up of past and present public office holders. While some of them have expressed misgivings on his move to the APC a source close to the senator had told this newspaper that after the congresses most of his supporters will publicly declare for the APC.
It was gathered that one of the federal lawmakers and a close ally to the Senator, Hon Goodluck Nana Opiah who represents Ohaji/Egbema Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has already crossed over to the APC.A former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP State chairman, Barrister Nnamdi Anyaehie is also speculated to have joined the senator to the ruling party. It was unclear as at press time if another confidante of the senator and a former legal Adviser of the PDP, Barr. C.O.C Akaolisa will head to the Senator’s new political party.
It was learnt that Uzodinma may have settled for the governorship rather than seeking for Orlu senatorial seat for the third time.Governor Rochas Okorocha had already declared his interest for Orlu senate seat. A source also told this newspaper that in a matter of weeks and probably after the APC Congresses, the senator will announce his governorship ambition which is expected to add more drama in Imo APC which is already a theater of political drama.
