There are strong indications again that a former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim is on his way out of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Last month, the former Governor who had announced his intention to run for Imo Governorship in 2019 was speculated to be eying the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

Before then and before he declared  his intention to aspire for 2019 guber, Ohakim was linked to the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. But he quelled such speculations when he said he is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“ I remain in the PDP. This is a party I rebuilt in Imo State” he had told newsmen when he declared his intention for the Imo governorship contest in February 2018 in Owerri.

But this newspaper observed that the former Governor may have slowed down the intensity and pace of his ambition over the choice of party.  A source close to him told this newspaper “After the issue of political party is settled, Ohakim who is the best among the lot seeking to take over from Okorocha in 2019 will fire on his governorship ambition on all cylinders”

It could not be ascertained why he may want to leave the leading opposition party in Imo State but sources said Ohakim may have envisaged that the PDP in Imo State may have lost the political nerve and fire power to stage a successful comeback to the seat of power in the State in 2019.

However, his Media Adviser, Collins Ughalla had told this newspaper last month that Ohakim is a big political masquerade whose move to another political party will not be a secret. He said the former Governor remains a leader in the party and has continued to contribute to its growth, development and success.

“Ohakim is like a big masquerade. Even if he is leaving the PDP, it will be done openly. There is nothing to hide” Ughalla had told this newspaper last month
