As the national convention of the All Progressive Congress draws near, the local Government Chairmen of the party elected at the party’s LGA congresses in Imo State have been sworn in.
The inauguration is coming on the heels of several protestations by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha who says congress did not take place in Imo APC. He had gone ahead to set up a parallel State Executive but lacks the go- ahead of the national leadership of the party.
The National Working Committee, NWC of the party had insisted that congress took place in Imo thus giving legitimacy to those who were elected at the ward, local government and State congresses of the party.
The party LGA Chairmen were administered oath of office by the State Chairman of the party, Hilary Eke in Owerri. Eke charged the Chairmen to work hard for the party as the 2019 elections draws near, imploring them to endeavour in bringing back those members who went astray.
He maintained that there was no crisis in Imo APC, stressing that what took place during the congresses in the State was normal in a democratic setting.
The State Party Chairman insisted that the party is one in the State and is led by him.
The inauguration of the LGA Chairmen by Eke is coming barely 48 hours the Okorocha faction says it is holding primaries for aspirants vying for councillorship and chairmanship positions ahead of the Local Government election.
The State Working Commitee of the party were also inaugurated.
