The APC led State Government had scheduled the polls to hold on July 14.

A top party leader who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity said categorically that APGA will not take part in the LGA election.

He said ” Our focus is to take back the seat of governance  of Imo State in 2019. We did it in 2011 when Okorocha became Governor of Imo State using our platform. Since he crossed over to the APC, you can see that Imo has been the same. Our focus is the governorship and not an LGA election that is already skewed in favour of the

APGA may also tow the path of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the State which may also stay away from the local government election.

While PDP has continoulsy called on Governor Rochas Okorocha to restore the Local Government Chairmen he sacked in 2011 and restored by the law courts, APGA may be opting out on fears that the process may be flawed and skewed to favour candidates of the governing APC in the State.

APGA in Imo State had a frosty relationship with Okorocha after the latter dumped the party after he emerged Imo State Governor in 2011. Okorocha described the party as a cultural organization.

To further justify its animosity, APGA recently countered reports that the Imo Governor may staging a come back to the party after engaging a fierce duel with his political opponents in the APC.

Efforts to speak to Imo State APGA Chairman, Barr. Peter Obi to speak on APGA’s plans for LGA polls was futile.
