There is mixed feelings in Owerri, Imo State capital over plans by workers to embark on a peaceful rally to show support and solidarity for Governor Rochas Okorocha.

According to reports, the rally is also aimed at drumming support for the governorship ambition of the Governor’s Chief Of Staff and son in law, Uche Nwosu

The event is expected to hold at Heroes Square on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018.

Speaking on the proposed rally and solidarity march, the Chairman, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Imo State, Paul Akalazu said he has not been formally notified of such rally.

Imo State Commissioner for Information, Prof Nnamdi Obiareri was quoted to have acknowledged that workers in the State decided to honour the Governor because of the lovely policies of the government to workers.

“It’s the decision of the Imo workforce. On their own, they chose to honour a man that has honoured them. What is bad about that? Okorocha is a labour- friendly governor” he reportedly said.

In his reaction, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Uche Onyeagocha frowned at the proposed solidarity rally

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mac Enwere  he said” It is also disheartening that the Governor went to the unimaginable extent of intimidating and threatening to sack or deal with any worker in the state who defies or hesitate to join the solidarity rally for Uche Nwosu.

“No doubt, this has once more justified Governor Okorocha’s unbridled desperation in making his son-in-law the Governor of the state. We consider the Governor’s desperation to hoodwink Imo workers into such a jamboree as not only reprehensible but highly repulsive.

“To us, forcing or coercing Imo civil servants into such a jamboree against their wish is not only unfortunate but insultive on the entire Imo state workforce. It is also morally unjustifiable for the Governor to force the civil servants in the state to go against their wish” Onyeagocha stated
