Imo Assembly Silent On Fate of Suspended Lawmakers

Despite reconvening on Tuesday, 10 July, 2018, to hear a petition tendered by 13 lawmakers who accused the State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere of misconduct, it was unclear if the Committee constituted to investigate allegations of “unparliamentary” conduct leveled against four of its suspended members have commenced investigations.

The House had recently during plenary adopted a motion moved by the Majority leader, Hon.Lugard Osuji who accused four members of the House Honourable Ifeanyi Nnatoronye (Mbaitoli), Nkenna John Nzeruo ( Ori East), Chiji Collins (Isiala Mbano) and Uche Oguwuike (Ikeduru) of indulging in “unparliamentary” act.

They were later suspended. Consequently a committee headed by Hon Lawan Duruji was constituted to investigate the allegations.

After then, there have been reports that lawmakers took a long vacation that will see them return to the House in August but in a u- turn, members reconvened on Tuesday to hear a petition against the Deputy Governor and suspend another lawmaker, Hon.Hon Donatus Onuigiwe

It was uncertain if the Committee had summoned the affected lawmakers. A source told this newspaper that since the suspension was slammed on the lawmakers, they have not been invited.

A local tabloid quoted one of the suspended lawmakers, Hon Ifeanyi Nnatoronye saying  that they will proceed to Court to seek interpretation of their suspension and also demand for justice.
