Ebonyi State Police command has paraded two suspects alleged to be involved in the murder of a 104 years old man, Mr.Joseph Olughu Nkama at Oso Edda, in Afikpo South local government of Ebonyi state
The command also rescued one Chinyere, a female and her brother, little Ibiam Igwe who were kidnapped when the hoodlums on 15th June, 2018 invaded the residence of Mr James, son of late Pa Nkama.
Also paraded was one Mr. Chukwu, a Christian aged 38 who was nabbed for unlawful possession of locally made firearm.
Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters, Abakaliki the Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah warned criminals to stay clear of Ebonyi state or be ready to face the long arm of the law.
ASP Odah who also assured the public of their safety, solicited for cooperation of community leaders and residents in giving timely information that will aid the Command in combating crimes in the state.
Her Words: “On that faithful 15 June,2018 at about 2 am, a gang of five armed robbers invaded the residence of Mr. James Olughu Nkama at Oso Edda, Afikpo South LGA of Ebonyi state.
“The hoodlums shot sporadically in the air, damaged all alumaco windows, ceiling and gathered all electronics within the household at the centre of the seating room and set them ablaze.
“The hoodlums also attacked and killed one Pa Joseph Olughu Nkama aged 104 years, father to James Nkama and robbed him the cash sum of Seventy thousand naira.
“The kidnappers gained entrance into the house of James Nkama and kidnapped one Chineyere Igwe ‘F’ age 8yrs and little Ibiam Igwe ‘M’ to an unknown destination.
“The kidnappers demanded five million naira as ransom from the victims’ family, while negotiations was still on. On 01 July, 2018 investigation took operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping squad (AK) to a community in Afikpo North L.G.A of the state where the first suspect Otuu Emmanuel ‘M’ age 21years was arrested.
“However, On 2nd day of July 2018,a combined team of both Special Anti-Robbery squad (SARS) and Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AK) stormed ,the “Kidnapper’s den”, a thick forest in Amangwu road Afikpo South to locate the victims and other members of their gang.
According to the Police, one suspect Uchenna Abani aged 24 years old was arrested while three others escaped.
Two minors were rescued and reunited with the family, hale and hearty. Efforts is on top gear to arrest fleeing suspects.
One of the suspect by name Emmanuel Otuu who confessed to the crime told newsmen that he got involved because he was in need of N200,000 naira which he needed to settle her mother’s surgery bill in the hospital.
