Imo Community Abolish Osu Caste System

Irete Autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State has abolished all harmful practices including the Osu and Diala Caste system.

The system had deprived indigenes of their rights and privileges.

Traditional Ruler of the Community, HRH Eze Ethelbert Ekwelibe made the declaration at the NTA festival 2018 held at Irete Community Primary School, Owerri West.

He described the practice as satanic and unchristian, stating that after consultations with the traditional institutions, clergies and indigenes and based on the overwhelming demand of his people, there was a collective resolution that the practice be abolished.

The Monarch said Christianity and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has placed all Nigerians on equal pedestal and henceforth in his community, no one should be called or regarded

as an Osu or Diala.
