The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Imo State may not concede to zoning of its governorship ticket and other elective positions in the party.
The party at the moment has more than 30 governorship aspirants who come from the three geo political zones in Imo State.
Former Governor of the State, Ikedi Ohakim is expected to join the fray in few days time. In an advertorial, Ohakim admitted that he has registered with the party.
This newspaper had observed that some of the governorship aspirants had expressed worry over the issue of zoning but there are indications that this may not be the case as the State party leadership is said to be disposed to conduct a free, fair and credible primaries.
An Owerri based newspaper on Friday quoted the Imo State Chairman of APGA, Peter Ezeobi saying that there is no zoning of the governorship seat of APGA because the Primaries would be anchored on a level playing ground to ensure that credible candidates emerge in all the categories.
He was further quoted to given an instance with Anmabra State during the tenure of Chief Victor Umeh as the Chairman of the party, recalling that it did not stop election of Mr.Peter Obi as the governor who all came from the same geo political zone.
The race for APGA governorship ticket would be keenly observed by the political pundits who have expressed worry on the increasing number of governorship aspirants in the party.
