This newspaper has stumbled on reports why the newly elected executives of Rochas Okorocha faction of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State cancelled Local Government primaries
Primaries where councillorship and Chairmanship candidates were selected were conducted by the outgone party leadership led by Chris Oguoma. The winners of the primaries were never made public fueling speculations that all may not be well after the exercise.
A source had confided in this newspaper that the names of the winners were not announced in order to stave off unforeseen eventualities that may destabilize the Governor’s camp as it was then heading to its planned congresses.
With the congresses over, the Daniel Nwofor led pararell APC state executive was reported to have cancelled the primaries for multiple reasons.
It was gathered that one of the reasons for the cancellation was to “filter” the candidates and truly identify those who are committed to the task of delivering Governor Okorocha’s son in law, Uche Nwosu as the party’s governorship candidate and at the general elections.
The Okorocha backed led APC state Executive held Congresses last week and as expected loyalists of Uche Nwosu emerged as members of the Executives at all levels thus ceiling speculations that Okorocha is bent on enthroning his son in law as Governor.
The cancellation of the primaries has however led to tension among the aspirants especially those who emerged winners in the primaries.
