Governor Rochas Okorocha had said congresses in the party will hold from Friday, July 20th, Saturday, July 21 and Monday, July 23rd, 2018.

The Governor’s camp had lost out in the party’s congress in the State as the Coalition- a group of politicians opposed to the State Governor- won from the ward to the State levels.

This snowballed into a bitter war between the Governor’s camp and the Coalition at the national convention of the party held in Abuja. Senator Osita Izunaso, a top chieftain of the Coalition lost his re- election bid to the post of National Organizing Secretary to Hon Emma Ibediro, sponsored by Governor Okorocha.

Legal hostilities resumed after the political showdown between both camps at the APC national convention held in Abuja.

A Federal High Court in Owerri nullified the congresses in the party in the State. The Coalition has proceeded to the Appeal Court to challenge the judgment.

With Primaries fast approaching, the Okorocha camp insists on holding congresses, a move countered by the Coalition which in a statement called on party members to disregard.

According to a statement by Chief Okey Ikoro, Chairman, APC Stakeholders Forum, he called on party faithful to shun the purported congress as Congress in Imo State has been concluded and approved by the National Working Committee, NWC and affirmed during the National Convention of the party.

“Also any other issues about the Congress is before a court of competent jurisdiction and any action taking by the governor and his handful of supporters is prejudiced.

“We urge all party members to remain calm and ignore the governor and his arrangee Congress, as non of that can stand the test of time.
