19 members of the Imo State House of Assembly are in the plot to impeach the State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere.
This is coming on the heels of the submission of a report by Hon. Kennedy Ibe (Member Representing Obowo State Constituency) who chaired an ad hoc committee constituted by the House to investigate allegations of misconduct leveled against the Deputy Governor.
13 lawmakers had on Tuesday petitioned the Speaker listing allegations against the number 2 citizen of the State.
The Committee recommended that based on the allegations against Madumere, “he has a case to answer”
It also recommended that the Speaker, Acho Ihim should request the Chief Judge of the state to appoint a panel of seven persons of “unquestionable integrity” to investigate the allegations, pursuant to section 188 (6) of the 1999 constitution.
The Speaker, Ihim said, “ With the adoption of the ad-hoc committee’s report by the committee of the whole which has stated that the deputy governor has a prima facie case to answer and should, therefore , be investigated on two of the allegations bordering on his absence from his office for 90 days without reasons and his refusal to attend both the state Executive Council meetings and the state security meetings.
Reports said 19 members of the House are in favour of the report, while three others mainly lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP abstained.
Four lawmakers had been suspended for “unparliamentarily conduct. The House is expected to reconvene on July 17, 2018 for further deliberations.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Uche Onwuchekwa, said the purported notice of gross misconduct signed by some members of the Imo State House of Assembly was served on Nze Obinna Aharanwa, his principal secretary.

Part of the statement reads ” It must be emphasized that the purported notice of gross misconduct signed by some members of Imo State House of Assembly was not served on the Deputy Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere personally as mandatorily stipulated by the 1999 Constitution (as amended). And till date no such notice has been served on His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere.
“When and if any such notice is served on the Deputy Governor of Imo State His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere personally as required by law, he shall as a law abiding and responsible citizen of the State react to same personally’ the statement said
