The Social Democratic Party, SDP in Imo State has claimed that some aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress, APC are set to join the SDP.
The claim is contained in a statement by Chilos Godsent, Imo State Publicity Secretary of the SDP.
The SDP said a group of aggrieved members of the APC which identified themselves as Good Governance Forum (GGF) has commenced consultation with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Imo State in a bid to formerly decamp to SDP.
According to the statement “The leaders of the group who pleaded anonymous said that with the present unfolding events in APC Imo State, it will be very difficult for the party to win elections in Imo State in 2019. They also stated that their membership cut across the twenty seven LGAs and the three hundred and five wards in Imo State.
“The leadership of the decamping APC members further hinted that their attraction to SDP was as a result of the grass root strength of SDP, SDP commitment to restructuring of Nigeria and operation of Open Government when elected to power, adherence to the principles of internal democracy, harmonious co-existence and respect to the democratic rights of members. They further said SDP is the only Party in Imo State that has brighter chances of winning the Governorship of Imo State including majority in the State House of Assembly in 2019.
“The leadership of the decamping group said they will formerly and publicly announce their defection to SDP before the end of August 2018 in Owerri.
“Consequent upon the above, SDP Imo State will be very much ready and willing to welcome the decamping APC members to the fold of the fastest growing politic party in Imo State” the statement concluded.
