Igbo leaders are demanding for a fresh Nigeria Constitution that would be adopted before the 2019 elections.
The new Constitution, according to the leaders, became important since every election conducted in the country were not only faulty but disputed because of many irregularities linked with the military drafted constitution.
The leaders also made it’s position known on the fight against corruption which it said was a major programme of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government but very selective.
Prof Ben Nwabueze, a leader of the group was quoted to have said “The Igbo Leaders of Thought feels that the solution to corruption is to resolve political corruption which includes nepotism, appointment on basis of religious faith, protection of loyalists who are known to be manifestly corrupt, expenditure of public funds without budgeting.
“ILT strongly condemns the government selective approach to the fight against corruption”he said
The Group also aired its views on impunity and abuse of power which it said it views with dismay the use of instruments of the State to pursue ethno- religious and political goals.
