The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State has explained why it banned its social media team.

The party had set up the team elevating it to a Directorate by appointing a Director General and ward co- coordinators in the three senatorial districts, 27 local governments and in the 305 wards in Imo State for effective coverage of its activities in all parts of the State.

The party had disbanded the team on Friday which attracted reactions from concerned party members who had given thumps up to the team for projecting the party in good light ahead of the 2019 elections in the State .

In a statement to explain its resolve to carry out the ban, Damian Opara, Publicity Secretary of the party said, the team deviated from the principles and objectives which the department was established

“For the purpose of clarity, the Imo State PDP New Social Media Team was established to deal with, and expose the bad governance and actions of the APC government under Governor Rochas Okorocha in Imo State” part of the statement reads.

The party said rather for the team to stick its core objectives which is to expose and cause to be published the bad governance of the Okorocha led APC government in Imo State, “they (Social Media team) turned their actions and activities into dealing badly with the core images of the PDP which are the aspirants of the party in the forthcoming 2019 elections at all levels by raising very critical issues about the personalities and electability of our dearly beloved aspirants, who have done so much to strengthen the party at all levels in the State”

“Therefore, the PDP Imo State Executive Committee Members, having reviewed the above Scenarios vis-à-vis the actions and activities of the members of the team at all levels decided to suspend their activities with a view to reorganize and reconstitute the department after the forthcoming primaries election of the party.

“The party for that single objective suspended the activities of the New Social Media Team pending the reconstitution and reorganization of the departments after the party primaries” the statement stated.
