Based on the outcome of Imo PDP delegates congress, a former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha may be in pole position to clinch the party’s governorship ticket during primaries.
This is anchored on the fact that most of Ihedioha’s loyalists and footsoldiers in the wards and local Governments won the delegates congress of the party held at the weekend across the State.
This may be a setback for another top contender for the party’s governorship ticket, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The delegates elected at the congress will join statutory delegates of the party to form an electoral college that will vote at the primaries.
Ihedioha and Senator Anyanwu are the two major contestants for the PDP governorship ticket. Others are Senator Acho Ihim, Prof Jude Njoku, Barrister Chukwuma Ekomaru and others.
The delegates congress is a prelude the primaries which is expected to hold before the end of September.
