A Frontline governorship aspirant in Imo PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has condemned in strong terms the recent invasion by thugs on the State party Secretariat, Owerri.
Some thugs had invaded the party office on Wednesday over the just concluded 3 man Delegates congress in the party.According to a statement by Kelechi Eke, media aide to the senator, he expressed regret over the attack by hoodlums.
While condemning the act, he said it shows the desperation of some politicians.
Senator Anyanwu emphasized that no ambition of any individual is worth the life of any Imolite and wondered why politicians should allow their desperation to becloud their sense of reasoning. He said the party will not be threatened by such despicable actions and cautioned youths to desist from been used by desperate politicians.
Senator Anyanwu said the emergence of the delegates in the keenly contested election has proved that they have the confidence of the party members in their various wards and therefore can be trusted to make popular decisions in the forthcoming primaries of the party.
Senator Anyanwu who is currently the senator representing Owerri Zone in the Senate and the highest political office holder of the party in the State stated that the contention at this critical period when the party is in opposition is who has the capacity to win the elections for the party.
“It is about the soul of our party because we cannot afford to remain in opposition again, especially now that the people of the State in particular has rejected the ruling APC government.
“It is not about me or any other individual for that matter, but for the continued relevance of our party and her teeming members, it is for the generality of Imo citizens who have been abused and are eagerly waiting to be liberated.
“I bet you the 2019 elections will make or mar our party and this will be a function of the choices you make in the forthcoming primaries”, the statement read.
Senator Anyanwu told the delegates to see their elections as a patriotic duty to return the party to government and also restore the pride of the State, and not an opportunity to satisfy any individual interest. “History beacons, and I urge you all to write your names in the sands of time”.
