Imo Assembly Opens Up On Nullification of Imo Dep Gov’s Impeachment

The Imo State House of Assembly has said it would proceed  appeal against the ruling of Justice Iheaka of the Federal High Court Owerri, who nullified the impeachment of the State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere.

The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Acho Ihim, said during plenary that the House as a law abiding institution respect the ruling of the Court.

He however said the nullification of the impeachment of the Deputy Governor was an indictment on the State Chief Judge who failed to constitute the Panel of Inquiry within the stipulated time of seven days.

The State Chief, Pascha Nnadi had set up the panel after the expiration of the seven days the House mandated it to set up the Panel of Inquiry. The Panel was set up on the ninth day.

Speaking to this newspaper on the matter, Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lugard Osuji who represents Owerri municipal state Assembly said it is wrong for anyone to allude that the State High Court nullified the Deputy Governor’s  impeachment because the Imo State House of Assembly failed to follow Due Process on the impeachment of Madumere.

He said the House carried out the impeachment within the ambit of the law.
