Most of the governorship aspirants in Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC have been advocating for the use of Direct Primaries.

The party have eight governorship aspirants namely Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere,  Former Chief of Staff, Government House, Uche Nwosu, Chris Nlemoha, Former Secretary to Government of Imo State, Jude Ejiogu, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Commodore Peter Gbujie, Mr, Chima Anozie, Engr Chuks Ololo and immediate past Secretary to Government of Imo State, George Eche.

Nwosu is Okorocha’s preferred choice for the party’s governorship ticket and successor.

Their next of line of action is unknown following the latest resolve of the National Working Committee,NWC of the party to concede the right to State chapters of the party to hold any mode of Primaries that suits it.

In Imo APC, the Daniel Nwafor led State Executives had opted for Indirect Primaries, a mode which did not go down well with some governorship aspirants and other stakeholders who called for Direct Primaries.

Analysts contend that their agitation stemmed from fears that an Indirect Mode of Primaries will provide ample opportunity for Governor Rochas Okorocha’s choice to emerge as the governorship candidate of the party since he is firmly in control of the party structure.

Also some of the stakeholders who opted for Harmonization of the party structure have also lost out in the struggle as the NWC remained silent on the issue.

Senator Hope Uzodinma, senator representing Imo West senatorial zone had hinted last month that harmonization was on the way in Imo APC.
