The division though not acrimonious is said to be fueled by their individual interests for the two leading governorship aspirants in the party .

The party leaders are split over the governorship ambition of two political gladiators in the party, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, senator representing Owerri zone. Both have raised the tempo of the contest and made the scramble for the party’s governorship ticket more fierce.
