Osuji had last week obtained the APC Nomination and Expression of Interest Form to seek for a second term. He has been adopted by Governor Rochas Okorocha as the sole candidate to represent the municipality in the Imo State House of Assembly on the APC platform.

In a statement in Owerri signed by Mr. Ken Anuforo (Chairman) and George Offurum (secretary), the group said the lawmaker deserves a second term for his impressive performance at the House within a short period of time.

Part of the statement reads “Lugard has done well in his first tenure. He initiated 37 bills, a huge improvement to the 7 bills collectively initiated by three past representatives of the Municipality in the Assembly

“As a first term lawmaker, he overcame the task of learning the ropes in the legislature and he should be commended for learning so fast. He deserves applause for rising to become the Majority Leader of the House in his first tenure. The last time Owerri produced a principal officer of the House of Assembly was in the second republic when Dee Sam Mbakwe was Governor of Old Imo State. Then It was late Nze H.S.K Osuji that was the Majority Leader

“We are impressed with his representation and therefore he deserves to be re elected for the overall benefit of the people. In his oversight functions, he gave out loans to the less privileged, women, the needy and the youths. He has been a strong voice for the municipality in the House of Assembly. He successfully ended the mutual suspicion between indigenes and non indigenes in the Municipality.

“Aside issues affecting his constituents, Hon Osuji has participated actively on important issues affecting the House and the State in general.

“Gone are the days representatives of Owerri municipal make up the number of House of Assembly members. In Hon. Osuji, he is one of those whose voice was well and strongly heard. He has moved several important and key motions on the floor of the Imo State House of Assembly. He has to his credit of moving the motion Against Hate Speech at Conference of House of Assembly members from various parts of the county”

On the demolition of Eke Ukwu Owerri, the group recalled how the lawmaker consulted widely with stakeholders in Owerri on remodelling the Market.

“Hon.Lugard Osuji as a true son of Owerri consulted with the people especially the youths on the need to remodel the market in order to make it an economic hub for commerce and trade to thrive in the area

“The issue of remodelling the Market did not start with Lugard Osuji. During the time of the past administration some stakeholders in Owerri in concert with that government agreed on remodelling the market. We recall how some people went to Tejuosho market to study the structure of the market with the aim of replicating same in Eke Ukwu Owerri market.

“Fortunately that government was voted out of office and was unable to complete the process. The issue of Eke Ukwu market did not start with Hon. Lugard Osuji and he should not be made the sacrificial lamb on this matter”.

The group vowed to mobilize massive support for the lawmaker for his re- election in 2019, stating that Owerri people stand a better chance of producing the Speaker of the House of Assembly in the next dispensation.

“ As the present Majority leader of the House, Owerri municipal  is one step close to produce the Speaker in the next dispensation. We should support such a unique opportunity. Those opposed to this rare opportunity will be seen as mischief makers or enemies of Owerri people who still believe in the Pull Him Down Syndrome that has militated against the political development and growth of rising political leaders in Owerri”

“As youths, we believe that the time has come for our people to key into the Not Too Young To Run Act which encourage active youth involvement in governance and leadership.

“Hon Osuji is a youth and should be supported to return to the House a second term to continue to be a strong voice for us. This would place Owerri municipality in perfect position to grab the Speakership position of the Imo State House of Assembly” the statement concluded/
