There is rancour in the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Imo State over its governorship primary.

Since Friday, October 5, 2018, the scheduled date for the primary election, the party has been going through turbulence in a bid to produce a governorship candidate.

For three days running, there have been several verified and unverified information ravaging the social media on the actual state of of events in APGA in Imo State concerning its guber primary leading to unsavoury tales about the cock party.

At the weekend, two aspirants, former Governor Ikedi Ohakim and Ike C . Ibe had alleged that thugs were hired to disrupt the event on the first day of the exercise.

Sources in the camp of another governorship aspirant, Okey Ezeh said they are in pole position to be declared the party’s governorship candidate through a consensus arrangement.

In the face of all these claims, the state party leadership led by Barr. Peter Ezeobi kept mute without issuing any statement on the true  situation concerning the primary thus creating room for widespread speculations and in some cases outright falsehood.

Then on Sunday, reports went wild on the social media that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has emerged winner of the primary held at the Kanu Nwankwo sports complex.

An Araraume loyalist, Chief Vitalis Ajumbe posted on this newspaper whatsapp platform that Araraume has won the guber primary.

This elicited fireworks from the camp of another governorship aspirant, Hon. Uche Onyeagocha who in a statement called on party members to disregard what he described as “kangaroo” primary going on at the Kanu Nwankwo sports complex

He called on the general public and APGA faithful to disregard Araraume’s claims as winner of the primary alleging that the senator organized a parallel governorship primary. He revealed that all the governorship aspirants in the party have unanimously resolved to present a consensus candidate.

The option of a consensus candidate may sound feasible as APGA race against time to present a governorship candidate to beat INEC deadline which mandates all political parties to conclude their primaries on Sunday, October 7.
