Road To Imo 2019: How Political Parties, Candidates Stand So Far

*An Unbiased Analysis Of The Governorship Candidates  Of five Political Parties in Imo State*

As at 7th October 2018, official outcome of party primaries of some major political parties have revealed some of its governorship candidates.

This analysis highlights their strong and weak points which is subject to change since the governorship election in Imo State is four months away.

*SENATOR IFEANYI ARARAUME (APGA)*

* Ifeanyi Araraume*

His emergence as governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA may be controversial but Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has again shown an inelastic ability to dare where the lions fear.

Despite the circumstances surrounding his emergence as the party’s flagbearer, there is a school of thought that contend that he is the only one in APGA that posses the firepower,clout and capacity to lead the cock party to put up an impressive performance at the elections.

However how he manages the outburst and anger from other aggrieved governorship aspirants in APGA who lost out to him in the political chessboard of the party over the governorship primary is a food for thought. But certainly the Isiebu born politician is no pushover in any electoral contest and this makes him the candidate to watch in the 2019 election.

*EMEKA IHEDIOHA (PDP)*

*Ihedioha*

Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is from Owerri zone and has staged a come back to the governorship race a second time on the same PDP platform. This is no cheap accomplishment as this feat shows he is not a political pushover. He is also carrying a huge burden on his shoulders to lead his party- the PDP to victory in 2019, a party so earnestly yearning for a return to Government House, Owerri since 2007.

Aside the quest of the PDP to retake the governorship of the State, his emergence as the PDP governorship candidate, is a unifying factor for the party, which from all indications have overcome the monster of internal strife that usually affect its chances at elections in Imo State.

Ihedioha may be a rallying point for Owerri zone but how he manages the formidable opposition from other parties such as APGA and APC in the elections is a hurdle he must cross.

*HOPE UZODINMA/UCHE NWOSU (APC)*

* Uche Nwosu*
Chief of Staff, Govt House, Owerri

Whoever is finally pronounced the party’s governorship candidate by the National Working Committee, NWC has a herculean task first to re unite aggrieved stakeholders in the party and forge ahead for the coming election.

Either Nwosu or Uzodinma, it is very clear that the APC has shown preference for Orlu zone in line with its no zoning mantra.How this appeal to proponents of zoning in Imo politics remains imagined than assumed. Either Nwosu or Uzodinma, the APC enjoys incumbency factor and its candidate is a major contender for Government House in 2019.

*TONY NWULU (UPP)*

*Hon Tony Nwulu*

The Champion of Not Too Young To Run Act picked the governorship ticket of the United Progressive Party, UPP in Imo State in a rancour free exercise. His chances illuminates in the governorship election in 2019 as his ambition is capable of exciting the interest of Imo youths who have been yearning for a  leadership position in Imo State.

This however depends on how his party, the United Progressive Party UPP, tickles the Imo electorate for support and penetrate the candidature of its candidate among the grassroots who need a breakaway from the old order.

Nwulu is from Owerri zone, a zone marginalized from producing the State Governor since 1993 and this factor may count in his favour when the chips are down.

*ALOYSIUS OSUJI, MAJA PARTY*

* Aloysious Osuji*

Maja Party has proved to be one of the rising political parties in Imo State. Aloysius Osuji, its governorship candidate is from Orlu zone which makes him a focus for anti zoning proponents.

Osuji may be banking on the meteoric rise of his party which is striving so hard to capture and arouse the support of the Imo electorate to make a headway in the polls

*LINUS OKORIE (YPP)*

*Linus Okorie*

Okorie is the governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP.

He is from Orlu geo political zone. He also adds up to the number of governorship aspirants who are determined to give Imo State a clean break from the old order.
