The governorship flag bearer of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has picked a former governorship aspirant, Steve Nwoga as his running mate.
Nwoga comes from the Mbaise bloc in Owerri zone confirming this newspaper speculation that the senator may choose his running mate from the zone to enhance his chances in the 2019 governorship election in Imo State.
Nwoga was among 13 governorship aspirants who took part in the governorship primary of the party. it was unclear if he was among the 12 governorship aspirants who had cried foul over the exercise.
Araraume’s choice of Mr. Nwoga now makes Mbaise bloc a shopping ground for votes considering the impressive membership of APGA in the bloc.
Political analysts say it is a deft political move taken into the political enclave of the PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha who also wields enormous political influence in the bloc.
The Mbaise bloc is the largest political bloc in Owerri zone with four local governments namely Ahiazu Mbaise, Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Ngor Okpala. The four local governments have the highest voting strength in the entire Owerrri zone.
Araraume is from Okigwe zone and his choice of Mr. Nwoga could be another move to either pacify some members of the “New APGA who had dragged him and the APGA leadership to Court over the controversial primary that produced him as governorship flag bearer of the party.
