The drama in Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC is yet to abate following latest ongoing developments in the party.
A new Electoral Panel constituted by the National Working Committee, NWC, had arrived Owerri and invited all aspirants and stakeholders in the party for an interface at Rockview hotel, Owerri ahead of primaries on Saturday.
The Chairman of the panel is Rtd General Ibrahim Agbabiaka. The team also held meetings with the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC and the State Commissioner of Police.
After the interface, Saturday, October 6,2018 was fixed as new date for the governorship primary. Online pictures posted on facebook showed distribution of election materials to the 305 wards across the State for the exercise.
Primary for House of Assembly, Senate and House of Representatives will hold on Sunday, October 7, 2018.
However, some governorship aspirants in the party say they stand on the outcome of an earlier primary held on October 1, 2018 which was cancelled by the National Working Committee.
In a statement jointly signed by five governorship aspirants including Okorocha’s deputy, Prince Eze Madumere, they declared
“it would be in the best interest of the party to affirm the victory of Senator Hope Uzodinma as the governorship candidate of the party to, ensure overall victory during the 2019 general elections in Imo State.
“Our supporters and aspirants for the other elective positions will neither participate nor accept the result of a repeat governorship primary election in Imo State.
Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, has said he will not take part in a fresh primary.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Uche Onwuchekwa thanked party members for boycotting an earlier announced primary announced by Governor Rochas Okorocha on Friday, October 5, 2018.
Part of the statement reads “It will interest you to know that six Governorship Aspirants out of the nine that participated in the October 1st, 2018 governorship primary in Imo State came together to affirm the declaration of Senator Hope Uzodinma by the election Committee Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak as the authentic winner of the said prinary election.
“Following this development, the Joint Coalition of APC Governorship Aspirants (JCAPCGA) in Imo State wish to inform members of APC and the good people of our state in general that every issue of Governorship primary election has been concluded as the name of the Governorship candidate of the party for Imo State has since been forwarded for recognition.
