Labour have advised Nigerians to stockpile food stuffs as it insist it will not back down on its nationwide strike scheduled to take off on November 6, 2018.
They are demanding an increase in minimum wage for Nigerian workers. The workers held a nationwide protest in some parts of the country to sensitize workers on the looming strike.
The protest is coming as Nigerian Governors meet in Abuja with President Muhammadu Buhari to look at demands of the workers.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, the protesting workers were led by the National Vice President of the United Labour Congress, Igwe Achese. They marched to Government House, Port Harcourt.
“The only thing that can abort this strike is if they agree to our terms. Until that is done, there is no going back.
“Our message is for Nigerians to begin to stockpile their homes with foodstuff because this strike, when it begins, it will not end until the Government meet our demands,” Achese said.
Also speaking, the chairman of the River state council of the NLC, Beatrice Itubo reiterated that the economy of the country will be shut down on November 6 if their demands were not met.
