The inability of the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC to publicly publish or announce names of candidates for various elective positions in the party in Imo State is stoking up tension and anxiety in the party.
The APC in Imo State has been in crisis since it held its primaries.Two factions existing in the party have been involved a rat race for party tickets.
One of the factions, The Coalition is made up of Imo State Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, Senator Hope Uzodinma and others while another faction- the Rescue Mission camp is led by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
For the governorship ticket, it’s been a big battle between Uche Nwosu and Senator Hope Uzodinma. The Imo State chapter of the party has continuously announced Nwosu as the party’s governorship flagbearer, while a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the party leadership to recognize Uzodinma.
This has further fueled the tension in the party as the two camps claim various party tickets.
Two separate primaries have been held in the State chapter of the party while discussions bordering on harmonization of candidates from the two camps has broken down.
APC national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena was quoted by an online platform to have said that the APC is yet to issue its certificates of return to any candidate. The response came as both Nwosu and Uzodinma were shown parading INEC forms which went viral on the internet at the weekend
A credible source squealed to this newspaper that Uche Nwosu will be officially announced as the party’s governorship candidate.
Aside the 24 governorship candidates the APC officially announced last week, no further official announcements had been made in the remaining 12 states including Imo.
Zamfara State chapter of the party has been worst hit as INEC barred the party from fielding candidates for failing to beat INEC deadline of concluding primaries by Oct 7.
It is expected that the party will announce its governorship candidates soon to beat INEC deadline.
