Senate Approves Federal Polytechnic, Aba

The Senate on Tuesday approved gave it’s approval for the set up of Federal Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State.

According to Senator Jobrin Barau, representing Kano North in a report, said the need for a Polytechnic in Aba became necessary considering the fact that the people of Abia State and Aba in particular were highly industrialized people.

He said an  investigation by the commitee also revealed that the zone has a large number of people who were qualified and willing to study technical education.

” That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the commitee on tertiary institutions and Tetfund on the Federal Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State” he said

Senator Theodore Orji representing Abia central sponsored the bill. In his lead debate, he said during the first reading that the establishment of the institution would bridge educational gaps that the people of Abia State were experiencing.

Former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orji, assured the Lawmakers of the co operation of the people of Abia State whenever the institution commences operations.He said Aba was strategic was to technical education.

Other tertiary institutions bills passed into law by the Senate after two weeks recess include Federal Polytechnic, Silame, Sokoto, Federal Polytechnic, Gumel, Jigawa State and Federal College of Education, Sabin Birni Sokoto State.
