There are strong indications that key chieftains of Imo APC coalition may have lost out in the race to produce a running mate to APC governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
The Coalition is made up of governorship aspirants in the party who had collapsed their ambition to back Senator Uzodinma for Imo APC governorship ticket.
They include Imo State Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, Commodore Peter Gbujie (Retd), two former Secretaries to Imo State Government in Okorocha’s administration, Sir George Eche and Chief Jude Ejiogu.
This newspaper gathered at the weekend from a reliable source in Senator Uzodinma’s camp that the Senator may have settled for a University don and one who has proved his mettle in the academia.
The source was not forthcoming with the name of the running mate but said none of the Coalition members made the cut as the deadline for the substitution of names of candidates draws close
“ I can tell you that the Senator’s running mate is not a politician, but one with an impressive track record in the academia” he said
Efforts to confirm the name of the running mate to the Senator was unsuccessful as at press time.
Senator Uzodinma had selected his political ally, Barr C.O.C Akaolisa as his running mate when he emerged the party’s governorship candidate but eyebrows were raised on the grounds that Akaolisa hails from the same Federal Constituency with Uzodinma from Orlu zone.
