The apex socio-cultural youth umbrella in the twelve council areas of Orlu Zone, Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, has dissolved its national executive council led by Comrade Darlington Uzoahia following weeks of infighting, disputations and verifiable allegations of corruption, ineptitude and pecuniary interest on the part of the President.
The Assembly also nominated and ratified Prince Collins Opurozor to serve as President till the next election of the Assembly.
Moving the motion for the dissolution during a meeting of the Assembly in Orlu on Monday, the Coordinator of all the LGA Coordinators, Hon. Ben Ekwueme decried the level of corruption in the leadership of the Assembly. The motion was adopted by everyone in attendance, and the leadership dissolved.
Ekwueme also stated that the ousted President has demonstrated gross incompetence by his inability to convene a meeting which he was mandated to do. He went further to condemn the President’s violation of the constitution of the Assembly by seeking an elective political office without first resigning his position. Ekwueme cited the relevant sections of the constitution violated by the former President, and affirmed that since the constitution also empowers them to dissolve the leadership, the executive therefore stands dissolved.
The various structures of the Assembly in the meeting included the Coordinators in the LGAs, some members of the dissolved executive and the representatives of the students wing.
The emergence of Opurozor was roundly praised by everyone in attendance as of utmost importance to the growth of the Assembly given his well-known credibility and unchanging discipline.
In his acceptance speech, Opurozor said he has not come for an inquest and promised never to be detained by things that happened in the Assembly in the past.
The UNN-trained political scientist also harped on the need for unity of purpose and added that much more can be achieved by the Assembly through shared vision and concerted efforts. He directed the immediate past leadership of the Assembly to return every property of the Assembly in their possession within forty-eight hours.
