*Owerri, Okigwe Zones Likely To Be Favoured*
The race for a running mate to Imo APC Governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma has began.
Several consultations are ongoing to choose a deputy to the Senator as deadline for the submission of names of running mates to INEC comes close.
Owerri zone is highly favoured for the number 2 position since Uzodinma comes from Orlu zone. When INEC pasted Uzodinma’s name as Senator, Barr.C.O. Akaolisa was listed as his running mate.
But fears arose that Akaolisa may be substituted on the grounds that he comes from the same Orlu zone with Hope Uzodinma.
Three zone make up Imo State namely Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe.
However, indications emerged last night that one of the governorship aspirants who belong to the Imo APC coalition will make the cut.
Top in the race is the Imo State Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere who fell out with his boss and mentor for over 20 years, Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Madumere’s rift with Okorocha began when the latter preferred his son in law, Uche Nwosu to Madumere for Imo governorship in 2019.
Also in the race is a former Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Jude Ejiogu who also fell out with Okorocha. The name of another ex Okorocha loyalist and former SGI, George Eche has also popped up as possible running mate
However top chieftains of the party who were sympathetic from Okigwe zone may make the cut. But sources said whoever will be nominated has to be one that will strengthen the chances of the Senator to win the 2019 governorship election.
