There are strong indications that governorship candidates of some political parties in Imo State may have opt to float a rainbow coalition in the 2019 governorship election.
A rainbow coalition is a political grouping by several minority parties. It has been mainly used in the United Kingdom.
Details of the coalition were sketchy as at press time but sources said not more than 10 governorship candidates of political parties in the State will be involved in the Coalition.
A source who is in the know of the plan told this newspaper at the weekend“ We are floating a Rainbow Coalition where the small parties will come together ahead of the 2019 governorship election in Imo State
This newspaper was unable to ascertain the political parties involved but there are indications that the Coalition is a step further to weaken the dominance of the candidature of three key governorship candidates of the APC, PDP and APGA in the State
“We are still talking about it. It is not definite yet. The multitude of governorship candidates in the Imo guber race is meaningless. We have to come together and form a new ground, a rallying point for those of us whom are classified as candidates of small political parties”
